Alaska as a Sustainable Leader
Fishing is central to the way of life for coastal Alaskans. To protect the state’s resources for generations to come, sustainable harvesting was written into the state constitution. Alaska now manages its fisheries through a combination of stock assessment, a regulated quota system, habitat protection, and strict enforcement. These management practices have made Alaska the accepted and celebrated model for sustainable fisheries.
In addition, Alaska prohibits fish farming to protect the habitat and food sources for wild stocks. Consumers know when they ask for Alaskan, their seafood will be wild caught, natural, and sustainable.

Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management
Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) is a third-party certification program for wild-capture fisheries. This certification allows companies to demonstrate responsible sourcing to their customers.

The Marine Stewardship Council is a global non-profit organization established to protect the last major food resource that is truly wild: seafood.
